San Gabriel River Cobble
Product Specifications and Uses
Great for landscaping parkstrips, dry river beds, and general landscaping.
Can be used for:
Dry creek effects
Wet creek effects
Drainage areas
Flood basins
Rock blankets

One yard of river cobbles covers:

300 square feet - 1 layer deep. This is too shallow you will see the soil or weed fabric
150 square feet - 2 layers and this works well but is ideal with a 1" deep layer of D.G. or smaller river rock under this rock.
100 square feet - 3" layer deep
75 square feet - 4" layer deep
60 square feet - 5" layer deep
50 square feet - 6" layer deep
42 square feet - 7" layer deep
37 square feet - 8" layer deep

Recommended rule:
The rule of thumb with rocks is to install a rock at least twice the size of the rock not going any less than 2" deep when using small rocks. With a rock that ranges in size from about 2" - 7", average the range at 4 1/2" but understand that with such a wide range of sizes the depth necessary to cover complete ground coverage could vary. We would recommend installing depths between 7 - 10 inches. Going less or basing your measurements on less depth will likely show the bare ground beneath the rock or running short. You are welcome to place rock deeper than the minimum recommended.
